I’m sure you will know by now that I have a huge passion for photography, always searching for my next pic. So, when I was asked along to try out a new Polaroid tour concept in Barcelona, I jumped at the chance. It was so much fun and I can’t wait to share some of the details with you.
Instant Tours (i.e. you ‘instantly’ get to see the little keepsakes you will take away from the experience!) has recently launched its retro take on photo tours in Barcelona, after successfully setting up similar experiences in cities such as Vienna (where it’s voted one of the best TripAdvisor activities in the area!), Warsaw, Graz and even Hong Kong.
On the sunny afternoon that I went along to the session we met outside the beautiful Barcelona Cathedral and were shown how to use the cameras with their new Polaroid Originals films. At this point I feel I should add that you need no prior experience in Polaroids or photography. All I hoped for was that I was going to be better than I was at taking pics than in the days of disposable cameras…I’m sure some of you can relate!
Once we could work our new tools, our local photo guide, who spoke English, Spanish, Italian and Czech (pretty impressive), took us around various parts of the city and where we were encouraged to find our own personal style for each Polaroid souvenir. We were also given a little plastic pouch to hang around our necks so that we could place our photos in there to develop whilst on the tour.
I have to say that the tour really made me think about the images that I wanted to capture. Quite different to the modern technology we have whereby we can snap as many as we want and simply delete the ones we don’t like. We literally only had 8 photos in the film pack so it was all about getting it right first time and not wasting each opportunity.
My first pic was a little wobbly but I soon got the hang of it. We wandered round the streets of El Born, towards Parc de Ciutadella before finishing at the Arc de Triomf. The tour took around 2-3hours, plenty of time to snap your favourite spots, and we then enjoyed a little seat together to peruse our work. It was great to see so many different takes on one subject, through the eyes/camera of each attendee! Each one had a little bit of personality behind them.
If you’re interested in doing something a little different whilst staying in Barcelona, I’d highly recommend that you give Instant Tours a try. Tours are offered daily and you can book them direct through the Instant Tours website.
The cost is 59 EUR per person and includes the vintage Polaroid cameral rental and a pack of 8 film photos.
